Why Build A Capsule Wardrobe

Let’s talk capsule wardrobes for a moment. I’ll be the first to admit that I’m not one to jump onto new trends. I’m pretty boring like that. But this whole capsule wardrobe thing raised my curiosity. Every time I browsed Pinterest, I was bombarded with the latest seasonal capsules, and they recently won my heart over! I’m recently just built my first Spring capsule wardrobe this year, and I’m telling you, they are a game changer! Read on for the 5 top reasons why you should build your own capsule wardrobe.

5 Reasons for Building a Capsule Wardrobe

1. Easy (or Easier) Mornings

I’m a mom of two little ones age two and under. My first slept until 9 am up until she turned two. She spoiled me by letting me keep my sleeping-in habits and peaceful mornings. The baby…he likes early mornings – I never was a coffee drinker until he came along. Anything that can make my sleep deprived mornings run smoother is a win in my book!

That’s where a capsule wardrobe comes in.

You really don’t ever have to think about what you are going to wear. Gone are the days of changing your outfit three times before you leave the room. With a capsule, everything in your closet is interchangeable. Each piece was well-thought out beforehand, so you know it fits, and you know you look good in it. You no longer have that lost look or feeling when you reach into your closet. You can confidently and quickly put together an outfit for the day.

Whether you are a mom of little ones, or have a full-time job, or anything in between, a capsule wardrobe is for you. Easier mornings…trust me on this.

2. Less Laundry

Laundry, regardless of whether you are single or married, kids or no kids, it never ends. When it was just my husband and I, I could get away with doing 2, maybe 3, loads every week or so. Two kids later, I’m pretty much running the wash at any given point. It’s my arch nemesis (along with dishes).

So where does having a capsule play in with laundry? Less clothes. Less laundry. It’s that simple. At least for my wardrobe. And the hubs…he’s always kept his closet at the minimal. Now I just have to convince the little ones to stop having accidents. And the drool – oh my goodness the drool!

So a recap, less clothing, as with a capsule, equals less laundry.

3. Quality Clothes

The whole point in a capsule wardrobe is to have clothing that fits you as it should, clothing you love, and clothing that will last. When you are just starting out, definitely shop from your own closet. Keep the pieces you love and donate or sell those that you don’t.

As you fill in the holes in your capsule, you’re going to find yourself getting picky with the pieces you are adding. And that is a good thing. You’ll be searching out specific pieces and not just purchasing filler pieces. You’ll find yourself much happier with what is in your closet. It was thought about – if it fits into your capsule, if it fits YOU, and if it will last.

4. Saving Money

Okay, you might not think saving money goes hand in hand with having quality clothes, but hear me out. Yes, you might initially spend a little extra on your wardrobe finding those quality pieces that will last. But with higher quality clothing – the replacement is WAY less often. Which means you are saving money in the long run.

AND, like I said above, you aren’t buying something just because you walked by it and liked it. You are wasting hard-earned money on filler pieces. With maintaining a capsule wardrobe, shopping for clothes becomes intentional.

5. Emotional Health

I was working on my first capsule wardrobe (yes, even I’m an amateur) and my husband was quite amused. He found me staring into my closet the other day. I had just cleared out the bottom half of my closet and only had my capsule items hanging. All the pieces looked so nice hanging there together. It seriously gave me such a sense of peace!

I say this quite seriously, if you are looking for ways to lessen the stress in your life, here is one way! When you can effortlessly get dressed in the morning and know you look great, it’s just one less thing to stress about and one more thing to be happy about. Less stress of choice, less stress of rushed mornings, less stress of not feeling confident in what you are wearing, less stress of too much laundry.

And there you have it. Five great reasons on why YOU should start building your capsule wardrobe today.
